Obtain a Used CPU. HP 532w 1.7g celeron w 512meg of 2700 DDR. It had a
virus (some sort of back door GW Trojan). I bought a new hd and a copy
of XP home upgrade. I can only get windows to copy install files to 12%,
then it just quits. After I authenticate it with a full copy of 98SE.

With both memory chips, I can't even get it to load that far, so when I
take one or the other out or move to other slot (there are 2) it will
load to 12 or 13%.

What do you guys think ? Bad MB or Processor chip???
Thanks in advance,
Dave

Bad RAM is more likely. A Celeron is limited to a FSB at
400 MHz which means that PC 2100 is fine. You might want to
remove all hardware that is not needed to run the system
until after you have the basic install complete. Remove
extra drives, PCI cards, etc.

Thanks for the reply Jim, my mistake I have 2 sticks of 2100 DDR not
2700. I will invest in another stick of ram & see if I can get it to load.

Tried new stick of Ram, And still same problem. Now only loads setup
files to 5%. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
