I just purchased a new laptop and installed Win XP Pro.
THe installation appeared to go well and I was able to
install Office and other software and use them.

I did not have sound so I put in the utility CD thinking
tha t I needed to install audio drivers.

Now when I shut down the computer and try to reboot I need
to have the Win XP CD in the drive to boot. I can not get
the system to boot from the hard drive. I have gone into
the Bios and select the 1st device as Hard Drive, 2nd
device as SM Slimtype combo 3rd choice is IBA FE slot
0140 v

Can someone advise me how to ge the computer to boot from
the hard drive.

Did my use of the utility CD have anything to do with this
or was it coincidence. By the way I get sound but it is
barely audible...how do I adjust sound. It appears that I
have sound at maximum when I accessed this option on the
control panel

Looks like you did not install the board/video/audio drivers in the
appropriate order - mainly if you have on-board sound as most laptops have.
Guess you have to reinstall clean but make sure to visit one of the sites
that detail a good clean installation of XP.
