Need help please!

After the failure of my power supply, I had some serious problems with
Windows XP home (reboot in loop). I decided to do a repair install, as
described in

http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

except I didnt't delete undo_guimode.txt (hell, I couldn't find it!);
I'm starting to believe that might be the source of my new problems.

After the repair installation, I could get into windows, but my
configuration is all messed up:
- Invalid shortcuts everywhere
- registered programs ask me for registration
- lost passwords
- ...
I checked the register it looks like it used to be. Is there a "magic"
way to recover my configuration without checking everything by hand?

As suggested in the link above, I backed up the content of the repair
folder, plus other files in \win\system32\config\

Thanks, any help greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you chose reinstall instead of repair.

I'm pretty sure I followed your indications correctly, except for the
..txt file as mentionned. Doesn't a reinstall reformat the disk anyway?
Did I mention my file associations were all gone...

A reinstall will replace the Windows and Files and Settings folders leaving
everything else intact.
You may need to take ownership of your files.
