Hello, I am having some trouble accessing the users
accounts on my computer. Here's the story....the
ctrl+alt+delete task manager was coming up but would
disappear before you could do anything with it, for no
reason too. My younger bro decided to do a Non-
Destructive System Restore on the computer. We have a HP
computer. We have accounts that were password protected
and after the restore the welcome screen came up with
only ONE account!! When we go into the c: drive and go to
the Documents and Settings folder we can see our accounts
there!! We try to go into them and it comes up and says
that ACCESS IS DENIED!!! We have tryed to create the
accounts as we had them before (same name and password)
and we go to the welcome screen and it shows the user
account picture we had selected for it before. When you
go into the account it will NOT have any of the folders
or setup as the old accounts!!!! When u then go back into
the control panel and look at the user accounts the new
accounts have the name we put for it and the name of the
computer next to it!! I have no idea as how to fix this
problem!! Can anyone help me out??? Any advice, help,
and/or tips will be VERY appreciated!!

Many Thanks,
Don

A rapidly disappearing Task Manager is symptomatic of a virus. If you
have an infected machine, doing a non-destructive HP System Restore
wouldn't solve the problem. At this point, you need to clean your
system first. You might do best by taking your machine to a good local
repair shop (not a CompUSA or BestBuy). As far as the accounts go, you
can try taking ownership, but you will need to be sure your computer is
clean.
