I am having the same problem with the viruse Backdoor.Agent.B, but the
filename infected is Windows\System32\Compema.dll, (I have Windows
XP). Norton's removal instructions are not working. When I search for
the the infected file, I can not find it, the file is not hidden
either. I tried all the steps in Safe Mode, but still no luck the
only thing I found in the Registry, was the value under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
AppInit_DLLs: "Windows\System.32\Compema.dll /p" so I deleted that
too.
This was different then what was noted on the Symantec Site. I
didn't find any of the other value the virus was suppose to add. I
updated my Antivirus and ran a full scan in safe mode but came up
empty. My browser keeps opening to about:blank, I cannot change the
home page, but the notification pops up regardless if my browser is
open. Within five minutes, I could have five notifications, which are
the same every time, but can't find the problem.
I also tried two different Ads Software programs, Adaware & Xoftspy,
which found alot of spyware, but did not fix the problem. I am now
thinking of updating my firewall and Norton Internet security.
