Trojan Virus - missing DLL's

We recieved the Virus within the first couple of days of
it being out, before the anti-virus programs had a fix.
We finally got rid of it but it has done some damage to
my computer. When trying to run/install some programs we
get a "Can not find shell.DLL" and then "Can not run 16
bit Win. Program". As well some programs hang after a few
minutes. Does anyone know how to fix this short of
reformatting Windows XP?
