I have somehow gotten this virus and it has knocked out my windows media
player. I have quartined and then healed this thing, according to the AVG
program I have run, but I still can't use the media player. And when I
restart my computer it says I still have this virus and tells me to run AVG
for Windows, which I have done and it does not detect any viruses. This
virus is in Windows/System Volume and I have no sound on my computer
(running XP, by the way) and system restore won't work. It won't go back to
an earlier date and is not telling me why. I need help. Anyone?

Hi,

You need to restart System Restore, the virus is in the restore files
(system volume information). Start/run services.msc, scroll down to the SR
service and double-click it. Stop it, set the startup type to disabled, then
click apply/ok and reboot. When finished, reverse the steps to restart it.
You will lose all restore points, but they contained the virus so you
wouldn't want them anyways.

That's a hard way to do it. Simply right click on My computer, click
System Restore tab and check mark Turn off System Restore.
