I need a quick way to test if the sound card is functioning properly.

What is the easiest way to make a sound come out of the sound card after
winXP has booted and is in the desktop?

One way is to put an mp3 or midi file on the desktop and double click on
it.

Is there a way to do this (via keyboard or mouse) without having to put a
file on desktop, so I can do this test on other people's computer? Some way
to cause an error sound, perhaps?

Go to Start > Run and type: C:\WINDOWS\system32\oobe\images\title.wma
and hit enter.

Hi Peter,

Thank you for posting here.

If you did not set any sound in the Sound Scheme, there is no sound for
these actions of keyboard or mouse.

Carey's suggestion is great. In addition, you can also click Start > Run
and type wmplayer.exe, then press Enter. Then play the example file in
Media Player to test the sound card.

Have a nice day!

If you simply adjust the volume using the icon in the system tray,
you'll get a sound.
