Trim relative cell reference not updating

Hi
probably automatic callculation is disabled. does hitting
F9 change the results?. If yes goto 'Tools - Options -
calculate' and enable automatic calculation

I am using Excel 2002. I have text values in column A

that need trimming. In cell B1, I type =Trim(A1) and the
formula evaluates correctly. I drag fill (about 30 rows).
The formula's relative references work correctly (Cell B2
says =TRIM(A2), etc....) but the value is of cell A1!

Funny thing is, if I go into an individual cell, (say B2,

for instance) and click on the green arrow, the value
updates correctly.

That was exactly it. For some reason, that was checked off on the export file I had
