I'd like to burn some JPG files onto a CD, in such a way that they can be
VIEWED in Windows Explorer, but they cannot be COPIED from the CD. Seems to
me there must be some easy way to do that, but I sure can't figure it out.
Anybody got any ideas?

Thanks in advance......

The best you can do is to lower the resolution to screen resolution.
Then the best copy they can get is that low resolution.

Anything else can be beat. If you can see it on the screen, there are
utilities that can capture it.

Can't be done.
If it is on the screen, they already have it.
They may need to figure out how to save but they already have it.

If it is that important, do not give it to anyone.

You can prevent from copying and from printing provided you have adobe
acrobat (not READER) on your system. If you have adobe acrobat then you
can apply security settings to your document which can be read/viewed but
not printed nor copied!!!.

And what keeps a screen shoot utility from capturing it? For that
matter what stops someone from photographing the screen?

What prevents the person viewing the file from making a screen grab???

I use non Microsoft products wherever possible which requires no activation.

I use Netscape 7.2 as my default browser which has everything I need for my work.

I believe in good Financial Management!! I do not believe in enriching rich jerks!

if you check rec.photo.digital this has been discussed there consensus

Proshow gold... allows you to set a specific
number of days that you can view it; then a password to
unlock it after that.

you can download a free trial to see if it will do what you want

Someone with Senior in there name should not talk about age. heh

If I can see it on my screen, I can grab it. It may end up in a different
format - perhaps slightly lower quality (usually not) - but if I can see it,
I can screen capture it with one of hundreds of apps or just "Print Screen"
and paste it into a multitude of applications to save at my leisure.

Sure, you could make the CD into a "time bomb" of sorts, but there are ways
around that the same as there are ways around any other copy protection out
there.

The only way to do what you are saying is to show the users the pictures
from your PC, one at a time, you in control. Then take that PC and your
happy CD with you when you leave.

No Dave, as yesterday you are wrong.
Your insults go up as the quality of information goes down.
The same applies to this CD as with other security measures.
You have no security without physical security.

Your plan does nothing for physical security.
And in fact as has been pointed out, is easily bypassed because of the
physical security issue.

LOL! How wrong you are! It doesn't matter what application to which the image is saved, if one can view it from that app, even whilst on the CD, it can be saved still. Once it is seen in a window, through whatever means, it can be captured.
