Transparent standby button Windows xp

I no longer can click my standby button from the Start
button, Turn Off Computer button. The standby button is
faded and transparent. Any ideas for a fix? Thanks!

you by any chance running a 3D screen saver?....I thought I read somewhere
that it can't go into standby mode when you are using that type of screen
saver.I could be wrong.

No, I am not running any screen savers. I have yet to
find this problem in any discussions...appreciate you
