I would like to transfer all my files and system files on
my XP system to the new HD I just installed - so I can
make the new HD the boot HD. Can I do this without re-
installing all Windows and all the other files??

You may wish to visit the support website of the manufacturer of your
new hard drive and see if they have a free utility program that you can use to
accomplish this task. For example, if you have a new Western Digital drive,
you can download their free Data Lifeguard Tools which includes "drive-to-drive
copy capability" (Ref: http://support.wdc.com/download/).

Fujitsu

IBM and Hitachi

Maxtor

Seagate

Western Digital

Or you can purchase Norton Ghost and create an "image"
of your old hard drive:

You dont need any 3rd party hd software for that project,xp already ha
it.Have the 2nd hd set as D:,formatted, and has a primary partition.Go to run
type:XCOPY C:\*.* D:\ /c/h/e/k/r click run.In the DOS window agree to all
This works in xp,if you want more info,go to run type:cmd In cmd type
XCOPY /?

Andrew,

you are right, but there are a number of traps to fall into. See
