How do I transfer all my Outlook 2003 settings (folders, saved messages,
contacts, calendar etc) from an old computer to a new one. Both computers
run WinXP.

I copied my Outlook.pst folder to my new computer. However, my "personal"
folders are missing, i.e. the folders I created to store e-mail by category.
How do I also transfer these "personal" folders?

The file you need to transfer is your Personal Folders file (*.pst) It's
where all the mail, calendar, contacts etc are stored.

Take a look at these pages for info on Outlook data backup or transfer:

Go the the Outlook website and download the Outlook backup utility. Install
it on both computers. Configure it to save the outlook files on your desktop
or somewhere you can easily find them. When you open Outlook you will see
backup on the file menu. Click on the backup option and follow the
instructions. The next time you close outlook the file will backup. Copy
the file to a cd and put it in the new computer. Full instructions on the
site.

Explain what you mean.
If you copied the correct PST file, then your data will all be in it.

What I mean is this: my Inbox, Sent Items, Junk Mail and Spam folders
transferred to my new machine. However, numerous other mail folders,
containing read mail, categorized by subject matter, do not appear. I
created these folders to organize messages by topic (personal, business
etc). These are the folders I can't find on my new machine. These folders
are called "Personal Folders" in my original Outlook 2003 installation.

As I said, if you had copied the correct PST file and followed the
directions, all those folders you created would be there.
Check your steps.

OK, I am making progress. I found a second Outlook.pst file in a different
location. This second contains my "Personal Folders" but not the management
folders, including Inbox, Sent Items, Drafts etc. Also the second file does
not contain all my Contacts, which did appear within the first Outlook.pst
file. So I suppose the question becomes: How do I combine the two
Outlook.pst files?

The first question is were you using two PST files in your old installation?
I don't know why you would, but that is the only explanation for the fact
that you now have your data in two separate files.
You can easily combine them by opening both PST files in the same profile
and copying what you want from your second PST into your default PST. Then
you can close the second PST file.

O.K. How do copy from one PST to the other within a profile? And how do I
open profiles?
