The AOL addressbook is kept on AOL's servers. Go to AOL's Help to find
out how to export the addresses.

I would have to say that this is a pretty bad answer..I already tried to go
to AOL servers and they are doing the same thing that Microsoft is
doing.....creating a circular reference, i.e. not my problem...how about a
simple answer or doesn't anyone at Microsoft know how to do that?????

The problem is AOL's proprietary formats.
If you Google' aol address book to windows mail' you'll find solutions,
but you will have to pay to do it easily. ePreserver for $25 can take
you to Outlook Express. From there you can get to Windows Mail. If you
do not have a lot of addresses (like over 100), you can send an email to
yourself a new email announcement using the new address and add 15 AOL
addressees to the 'to list' and capture the email addresses in Win
Mail(open the email and then use tools/contact list feature). Just cycle
through your addresses in AOL until you finish the list. Tedious, but it
worked for transporting AOL and Juno email addresses to OE. If you do it
using OE (like from another computer),you can export the address book to
a csv file and import it into Win Mail.
Detailed enough for you?

You can try and import into Thunderbird and from there to Windows Mail. You cannot export\import from AOL to Windows Mail. You need a Middle Man like Thunderbird or Eudora

When setting up an AOL email, it is an IMAP server, NOT pop3.
I use imap.aol.com as incoming server and smtp.aol.com as outgoing.
the username is your aol screenname and the aol password is just that.
you must check 'my server requires authentication'.
I haven't set it up in Vista, but that works in my OE on XP.
I have Hotmail setup on OE as well, but it looks like Vista won't let you do
that either.
Progress indeed.

As far as importing your AOL email addresses, it's not possible.
They have to be input manually.
They tested that in AOL for over a year before deciding it wouldn't work.
I was never able to do it through at least 2 dozen different attempts by the
Beta team to fix it.

That doesn't give one a whole lot of confidence in the competence
of AOL developers.

Microsoft has moved Hotmail to Windows Live Mail (not my first choice
either.) My preference is to use Outlook 2007, your preference my vary.
