I have copied the Contacts file from my Outlook on my office computer. I am
no longer at that company so I do not have access to that computer any
longer. My new computer is running XP Pro. When I have attempted to copy
the contact files into my new computer, I am getting an error message saying
that the disk is not formated correctly.
I was able to transfer these contacts to a another computer running XP.
How can I get this transferred?

Help!! It is urgent that I get this done for my new business

Thanks

Outlook has no separate "Contacts file."
How did you create this file and in what format is it?
What is the exact error message and what do you do that triggers it?

Russ -

Mayber my terminology is incorrect. We are trying to input the Outlook
contacts from one computer to another. We have copied them onto a floppy --
when we try to input them, the computer says that the floppy is not formatted
correctly -- yet we were able to do it on a different computer --

I think that the file is a .pst file -- We exported the contacts onto a floppy.

I can work around terminology, but I still need the answer to my questions.
How did you copy these Contacts?
What is the file extension of the file you created?
What exact steps are you using when you get that error message?
(I know of practically no Outlook Data Files small enough to fit on a
floppy).

Ouch. Exporting is a terrible way to transfer Outlook data. Microsoft still
claims it is reliable. It isn't, especially if you export directly onto your
storage medium.
There are numerous places where data corruption might have occurred. To see
if your file is even usable, make sure you copy it onto a hard drive, remove
its read only attribute, then try to open it using Outlook's File > Open
command.

Thanks for your reply -- so let's put it this way --
I have successfully moved the contacts to another computer. Now we want to
move it to yet another computer. How do I move the contacts from computer 1
to computer 2?

Thanks --

Create a new Personal Folders file.
Copy your Contacts into this file.
Close Outlook.
Copy this file to the other computer and open it in Outlook.
