My home computer is used by my kids and me. Some one down
loaded a program that allows the site to keep sending me
pop up ads. I want to figure out which user down loaded
the program. How do I get that information?
David

You really cannot determine who downloaded the program.
If you have kids, you should consider installing a good
security program such as Norton Internet Security 2004
by Symantec. Then you can enable Parental Controls.

To secure your computer and prevent future security breeches,
consider installing a first-rate internet security program:

Norton Internet Security 2004
http://www.symantec.com/sabu/nis/nis_pe/

-- Includes Norton AntiVirus 2004
-- Includes Norton Personal Firewall
-- Includes prevention of annoying web pop-ups
-- Includes Parental Controls
-- All in one, easy-to-install package

Torture works with my kids. I am not familiar with XP Home, but on Pro you can
look at the install folder of the application or the executable properties to
see when it was installed/created on your computer as a clue to when it happened
and if you can look at the security /advanced/ownership page you may be able to
see who installed the program being the owner. Of course the owner would be the
account that was logged on when the program was installed, and unless each user
has indivividual accounts, then it may hard to find hard proof. --- Steve

If you can find the program file on the disk, go into
its properties (in Home do this in safe mode) and then
in the Security dialog click the Owner tab and check
what account is the owner.
Whether this will answer you depends on where the
file was stored as many, but not all, areas are preset
so that the creator of the file will show as the owner.

Cool Roger. I am flattered we think alike, at least sometimes. What about
the torture bit though? --- Steve
