Track Changes Won't Stay Off

Word 2003

I can't keep track changes off. I researched on this board and found advice
from Lisa Inniger about changing the file properties, which I did. [Lisa's
advice: If you turn off change tracking in a document and change tracking is
turned on when you reopen the document, you may need to modify the file
properties. On the File menu, click Properties, and then click the Custom
tab. In the Properties box, click each item, click Delete, and then close the
document. When you open the document again, change tracking is turned off.]

However, upon reopening the file, it still opens with track changes on. This
is a useful and powerful tool most of the time, but the rest of the time it
causes a whole lotta frustration!

Anyone have any other advice?

Does it really open with Track Changes enabled or just with the Reviewing
toolbar displayed? The latter would just indicate that the document contains
tracked changes or comments. Turning Track Changes off does not affect this;
you have to actually accept the changes and delete the comments before
saving if you want the document to open with the Reviewing toolbar off.

I must definatley gree with Karen.
I am having the same issue, I am working on my MBA online and when I sent my
paper to the professor last week he received with the track changes on.
I always check my document before e-mailing to professor and each time I
opened the darn Track Changes was on. I turned them off and resent to myself
and lo and behold the darn thing was on again. I tried to find a flag in
options and customize to turn off but I had no success.

Karen are you using a laptop, the reason I ask is that I recentley reloaded
my laptop because of a bad hard drive.

This is very frustrating as you said Karen I am glad I am in good company.

I tried the File properties that was suggested and it did not work either.

Anyone have a clue???

You're saying that when the recipient opens the document, TRK in the status
bar is black, and any changes the recipient makes are marked with colors and
balloons? And to clarify, have you in fact accepted all the changes in the
document before turning Track Changes off?

This option merely displays markup if any is present; it doesn't turn Track
Changes on (or off), and it doesn't display the Reviewing toolbar if the
document doesn't contain any comments or tracked changes. I personally think
there's a good reason that option is on the Security tab.
