Track Changes in Protected Form in 2000 vs. 2002, 2003 & XP

I have created forms in Word 2000 in which certains sections are protected. Track changes is non-functioning within the entire document. I am wondering if track changes is functional within at least the unprotected sections of a protected form in Word 2002, 2003 or XP? Thanks!

No, tracked changes are not supported in documents with any protected
sections in either Word 2002 (same as XP) or Word 2003.
