Track Changes Doesn't Work, Sometimes

I am using Word 2000, and we do a lot of change-tracking here at work.
Sometimes when I want to use that feature, it will work. Other times, it will
just delete the selection with not strikethroughs. I am making sure the
"reviewing" toolbar is selected, and the "track changes" button is pressed.
Does anyone know what could be the problem?

Hi, Doug. On the Reviewing toolbar, select "Final Showing Markup" view to
see the deleted text in strikeout. If "Final" view is selected, then deleted
text will seem to disappear even if "track changes" is enabled.
 
Oops, what I said won't work in Word 2000. Instead, click on Tools | Track
Changes | Highlight Changes, and turn on "Highlight changes on screen".
