I am totallyrebooting to factory specs, will I lose all my updates from
microsoft? If so, can I save my updates on a disc and re-install?

Hi Vanessa,

Clean install of Windows XP removes all the hotfixes which you've added. Though you can download and save the updates locally from Windows Update catalog, I'd advice you to WAIT for few 2-3 days (till SP2 is released). Then slipstream SP2 with XP and create an integrated XP CD with SP2. Then backup your personal data and do a clean install.

Slipstreaming SP2 with XP requires the XP retail CD-ROM or the source files in the hard drive. Slipstreaming SP2 is explained here: http://forum.aumha.org/viewtopic.php?t=7262

I used Autostreamer, which took ~30 min to copy/integrate the files/create the ISO. Should you need a visual aid on Clean installing XP, see the MVP site below: http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

Forgot to include the note that Windows XP Service Pack 2 Network Installation Package is already available:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A

It will be available via Windows Updates shortly (the filesize will be less compared to the Network Installation Package)
