Hi

I often need to supply data files and html files on cd and the autorun

I'm not sure about DVDs but I use the following to get CDs running
automatically when loaded:

Create/burn file *Autorun.inf* to CD (without the *)

The Autorun.inf file contains two lines as follows:

[AutoRun]
OPEN=xxxxx.xxx (name of file to be loaded - eg: abc123.exe)

CDStarter ... excellent freeware
.. http://www.wentnet.com/projects/cdstarter/

CDStarter is a freeware program to put on your CDs that will present the
user with a list of buttons to run software or open files on your CD. You
can define your own lists and each button can have its own icon.

This thing looks quite cool...it needs to be used in conjunction with
an Autorun.inf file to get the cdstarter.exe to run automatically,
like:

[AutoRun]
open=cdstarter.exe /c config-file
icon=icon.ico

Looks like it'll be v/useful, thanks.

Excellent. And there is a French translation, too. This is exactly what
I had searched and didn't find.

Merci

AMenu is a nice little program that I used on some family photo archives
that I distributed to my family members. It sets up a CD to run with a
nice graphical menu with buttons via an autorun.inf file that it guides
you through configuring.

Look in the right hand column and click on the red arrow next to "AMenu
for CDs"

I don't reply to trolls like Andy Mabbett or Doc, for instance. No
adware, cdware, commercial software, crippleware, demoware, nagware,
PROmotionware, shareware, spyware, time-limited software, trialware,
viruses or warez for me, please.

will any of these allow *.EXE's (or other executable) to be run from
the CD/DVD drive ?

Do you know if that's still true post Microsoft's SP2 "security
revisions"? I'm thinking of the problems with the PL2006 CD. . .

Sorry Susan, I don't. When I used the program to make the CDs for my
family, I was still using ME.

Thanks John. It sure was a PITA to discover that things that *used* to
work no longer did - and that things that worked on-line didn't work on
the CD. . . add you favorite <expletive deleted> MS phrase here. . . ;)
