How do I switch the list of open pages at the bottom of the page from a
vertical presentation which requires using the up and down arrows to view and
select open pages, to the horiz list across the bottom with all open pages
visable?
 
If I understand correctly you are talking about the grouping of similar
taskbar buttons.
to turn it off right click on an empty part of the Taskbar and select
properties untick Group of similar taskbar buttons.
