too-small tiff output using raw & scan from file

My raw color-neg scans are 500+ megs, with a reprocess using "scan from
file" the biggest tifs I get are under 50megs. No tiff compression, 48
bit, the preveiw shows the big file size. How do I get the largest
tiffs?
