Too many programs launching on startup

I have alot of unwanted programs the launch on startup.
Is there a way to stop all of this?

Examples:
A modem on hold utility for instance, it nicely overides
volume settings on the modem, but does not put the modem
on hold very well. Another major problem is a program
attempts to install itself. Originally Adobe Acrobat
Reader 5 would try to install on startup, however, after
clearing out my temp folder, Macromedia Coldfusion
attempts to install, brining the startup process to a
grinding halt while it prepares installshield. There are
other programs like quicktime and realplayer, that also
launch. Nortan Ghost, I dont know what the hell this does
but its there to.

Hi

From Start>Run type

msconfig

then click on the startup tab. Uncheck any programs in there that you don't
want loading with Windows.

.
Go to start/run and type in msconfig or msconfig.exe.
Check the 'Selective Startup' box and then go to the
startup tab. There you have all the apps that are
loading on startup. Uncheck the ones you don't want to
load. Some of the programs have mysterious sounding
names, but I generally ignore what look to be Windows
components and just experiment with checking/unchecking
the rest. Also, you can go to start/control
panel/administrative tools/services and there you have
all the services that load. BlackViper.com has a good
list of which services you can disable for different
kinds of configurations. Norton Ghost allows you to
clone your hard drive onto other hard drives or dvd/cd's
for backup purposes. It makes an exact replica of your
hard drive.
