I want to remove all the icons i have in the taskbar because i dont' use them from there, and whenever my computer starts, its slow because it loads up all this crap that I don't want to load in the first place. How do I remove these programs from the taskbar, and how do I change them so that they don't open automatically when the computer loads up. Some of them include: roxio easy cd creator, kodak easy share, direct CD, messenger, etc.

(1) Click START to RUN and type: msconfig
(2) Select the STARTUP tab
(3) Uncheck the files you wish to prevent from loading
(4) Click APPLY and OK
(5) Reboot your system

If this fails to fix the startup error message after reboot, there are still
options:

(1) Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start
Menu\Programs\Startup
(2) Delete the icon that pertained to the startup error message you received
(3) Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\username\Start
Menu\Programs\Startup
(4) Delete the icon that pertained to the startup error message you received
(5) Reboot your system

Start > run > msconfig and go to Startup and uncheck those items you don't
want starting when Windows Starts.

But, before doing that you should check the programs themselves and look in
Options or Preferences or similar and see if they have their own option to
start when Windows starts. If so, uncheck it.

All 3rd party programs can be set Not To Run at start up
by going into the options of said program and unchecking
that box..ok messanger isnt 3rd party but it still works
the same way..Options.

How long is taking for all icons to appear on your Desktop? Is the computer
immediately usable?

What Anti-Virus and Firewall are you using? These do cause delays which you
may have to live with? However they could be other factors!

Look for Error Reports in Event Viewer. Make an exact note of the precise
text of any error message. Minor discrepancies can
make it harder to search for information about the error message.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, Event
Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID,
Source
and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click
for further information and you can copy using copy and paste.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button resembling
two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your
message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make sure
this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.
