Too Many Folders

I'm just wondering that what problems may occur if you
have too many folders with too many sub-folders in them.
(IE: you have a folder labelled "Music", in this folder
you have another named "Band Name" within this one is yet
another named "album name"). Could this cause performance
problems if there are literally hundreds of these sub-
folders within "music"? If so, what types of problems? And
does it contribute to fragmenting of your drive at all?
Thanks to anyone who can answer.

It has nothing to do with fragmentation, however it means that individual
songs will have very long path names, i.e., c:\....\<name of song>. Many
applications, and Windows itself, will not work with path names that are too
long, and will instead truncate the path, meaning that they won't be able to
find the file.
