I know how to mark a file that you do not want to upload when publishing in
FrontPage.

But how do you mark a folder that you do not want to publish?

I use FrontPage 2000.

TIA

You can't. Convert the folder to a subweb, then don't include subwebs when
publishing.

Use Selective Publish which is available from my Web site. It will allow
you to right-click on a folder and choose "Don't Publish" to mark all files
in the folder so that they won't publish.

Jim,

But does that stop the folder from being created on the remote server?

The folder will be created, but no files will be published into it.
Creating the folder takes less than a second. Publishing all of the files
within that folder might take a considerable amount of time.

So what happens if you open the remote site, delete this empty folder and
then publish back to your local machine, doesn't FP then delete your local
folder?

FP doesn't prompt for the folder deletion, only the files within a folder
that have been deleted.

Test environment:

FP2000 Client
Local Windows 2000 Server / FP2000 extensions
Remote Windows 2000 Server / FP2002 extensions

I created a folder with a single file, mark the file not to be published. I
then published and FP creates the empty folder on remote server. I then
deleted the folder on the remote server and then publishing back to the
local server. FP doesn't delete the folder on the local server.

Next, I un-mark the file on the local server and then publish. FP create the
folder with the file on the remote server. I then open the remote server and
deleted the file, then publish the remote site back to the local server. FP
prompts for the deletion of the file on the local server, but FP doesn't
prompt for the deletion of the folder, which it does delete.

You are correct. I do this all the time with jimcoaddins.com. I don't
publish any of my add-ins because they take a long time to process.
However, the files exist remotely, so there is never an issue with the
folder that contains them.

Jim,
Your adding did the trick and that process of not publishing a folder has
help me to upload large files that FP says the server timed out ,, even
though it doesn't even start the process.
thanks
