tmp files created on my desktop

When I save a Word document periodically while working in
it, a WRL~~~.tmp file is saved to my desktop. How can I
stop this from happening? Thanks.

If you've put a template or a document on your desktop, Word will create
a userfile (~$...tmp) on your desktop. Instead of putting the actual
doc/template on your desktop, make a shortcut on your desktop to that
doc or template.

Oops! I should have said "owner file."
