Jim

Hi,
I have two desktops computers, one is XP and the second is Vista. I am
trying to network them with no success. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Jim

I am not surprised at all. You need to post your query here:

news://microsoft.public.windowsxp.network_web

Where some high profile MVP who has nothing better to do will respond.

hope this helps.

its easy if you connect
them with cross over
network cable and not
a regular cable.

then turn off your firewalls
and a.v.'s to ensure there
are no interferences while
you figure out your system.

Please explain exactly what you have done and exactly what happened.
If you got any error messages, please quote them verbatim.

Make sure they're both on the same workgroup.

forgive me for trolling
upon your thread.

but the verbiage below
might have been better
phrased:
Where some high profile MVP &

for example:

or if you mood ring was
melting, then:

Jim,

People use the word NETWORK incorrectly a lot of the time in the nwsgroups

If you mean a proper network with a DC then it's easy

If you mean a Peer-2-Peer then it's equally as simple

If you're talking about joining them without a proper server then you can
simply use a cross over cable between the two. If you want to join them
using a layer 1 switch then just make sure the firewall allows traffic
between the two & that when the Vista machine is plugged in you choose HOME
& allow file/printer sharing enabled then connect between the two using RDP
or browsing between the two
