Timing Slides with Embedded Music

I recently did a presentation that I had worked on for a week getting the
slides and the music timed perfectly. I set it up and it played perfectly
before the group came in. But, when I played it for the group, the timing
was off and the slides finished and it stopped before the song ended. I'm
using Windows XP and MS PP 2003.

Why had it played several times perfectly and then suddenly, at the most
important time, the timing was off ? I had not changed anything and it was
played on the same computer, etc.

Unfortunately there is no such thing as audio syncing/timing in PPT. Because
audio is not handled by PPT but MCI, it is open any number of variables;
other applications running adjust process time, being on a network can
effect processing, etc. Even within PPT there are a number of variables; 1
vs. 2 monitors effects video card memory allocation, Hardware Acceleration
turned off/on, etc.

Because of the number of variables it is difficult to say exactly what was
the cause. If "sync'ing" to audio I always develop so there is more audio
than animation. That I have given some room for slower playback (for
whatever reason).
