The backspace key will let you edit typing errors while
still in the enter mode of a cell. The right, left, up
and down arrows are the same a using the enter key. The
best place to correct an error is in the formular bar.
Just place the cursor where the error is and correct it.

Good day Charlie,

Thanks for the quick response. Not quite the answer I was
hoping for, but I think you're telling me that there is no
way to cure this problem.

The interesting part of this is that if I detect the error
quick enough, the back-arrow key does allow me to move the
cursor left and fix the error. Yes, I agree that the
error can be fixed in the formula bar. And, if I detect
the error after moving out of the cell, placing the cursor
in the cell allows full use of the arrow keys. There must
be a timer setup on the initial data entry into a cell.
If you don't type any keys within one second, the timer
shuts off and the arrow keys take on a new function.

Thanks, Danno...

Haven't got the original thread in front of me but when you start entering
something in a cell you will see "Enter" on the Status Bar.

Hit F2 and it will change to "Edit".

You can now use the arrow keys forth and back to edit entries without leaving
the cell.

Has nothing to do with a "timer" on data entry.
