Is it true that my new Sony Vaio running Windows XP can't tell time. It's
not continously on or connected to an office network or DSL line. Every time
I boot up, the time is wrong and I have to reset it--a real nuisance. Just
suck it up and forget about it or is this a problem that can be fixed. An
earlier IBM laptop kept time just fine, even when off.

Your computer is new? Hmmm.
What is the error amount, stated as + or -, hours, minutes, seconds. (Days,
if necessary.)
Let us know, as at this point it might not be a hardware issue. Computers
should keep time just fine, and synchronize with a master clock whenever
they go on line.

If the laptop is losing time when it is turned off and not connected to
the wall outlet, then the motherboard battery is old. Since this is a
laptop and it is a *new* laptop, call Sony tech support immediately for
repair/replacement.

Actually synchronize once a week automatically or manually whenever you
want it by clicking on update time button.

Battery is the likely problem and will cost massive 0.75 cents!!.

It stops telling time as soon as it's turned off (or hibernating) so when I next boot up, the time displayed is that of the last use. I'm told it's most likely the motherboard battery. I'm calling Sony for a relacement/fix. Sounds right?
