"Tick" sign

Hi,

THe cell I am looking at is displaying a "tick" sign, and
I'm not sure why. Can someone explain??

The formula in the cell is:

=IF(ABS(D188)<0.1,CHAR(252),CHAR(251))

and the number format is "Custom": d-mmm-yy

There is no conditional formatting applied.

This seems strange to me as char 251 is û, and char 252 is
ü.
