This Site - how do you get replies?

By posting clearly written questions with lots of detail as to your problem?
:-)

As far as *seeing* replies - you might want to consider using a newsreader
like Outlook Express or Forte Agent rather than the web interface to the
newsgroups - it's a lot easier to do nearly everything there, including
searching, which is always a good idea to do before you post, as well as
mark messages to be watched, and filter based on replies to your posts.

The Microsoft public news server is msnews.microsoft.com and you can
subscribe to as many groups as you like.

What I really mean I supposeis - how do you know when
someone has replied to your problem? Does someone always
answer you? There doesn't seem to be any indication on
the list of how many, if any, replies there are to a
problem.

One more thing - should you put your email address in the
anonymous line to receive replies?

Dear Lanwench

Thank you for replying. I have just worked out how the
replies are shown (by the little crosses on the left!).

I have OE but I do know the first thing about using a
newsreader - I would need step by step instructions - and
even if I managed it would it show me the same site as
this? Would it just be through a different "window"?

Many thanks for your time.

Teresa

Never reveal your real e-mail address on Usenet. This is the way spammers
get new victims. Also, post here, read here. It means don't expect to get
e-mail reponses to your posts. Another thing, never top-post. It is
considered bad practice by a lot of people and makes it difficult to follow
threads. Never post in html, use plain-text please. As you see there are a
few `rules' to follow. Always read a group for a while before posting your
first message. Always try to find the FAQ of the group before posting. I'm
not sure if it really matters with Microsoft groups, but almost all other
groups have FAQs. Considering the bad way Microsoft's newsreaders behave I
suppose it is ok to forget all rules when posting to Microsoft groups. But
don't be surprised if you get flamed in another group for not following the
rules/reading the faq, etc.

In OE, just set up a new account in the news tab (tools, accounts) - server
name msnews.microsoft.com. Don't put in a valid email address in your
account settings or you'll get spam and viruses. No username/password is
required.

When you click on msnews.microsoft.com in your folder list, you will
probably be prompted to download newsgroups. If you aren't, you can click on
the newsgroups tab and either browse or search, and select the ones you wish
to subscribe to.

For OE questions (including news), use these groups:

microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.outlookexpress for OE 5.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlookexpress for OE 5.5x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress for OE 6.x
microsoft.public.internet.outlookexpress.mac for OE for Macintosh

A good website for information on OE is:
