Every time I try and access ANY form of floppy disk on my computer, it tells
me that the disk needs to be formatted, so I then try and format it and it
comes up with a random error message such as:
"Windows cannot complete the format"
or
"Windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or other programs
that are using this drive, and make sure that no window is displaying the
contents of the drive. Then try formatting again"

This error has been occuring ever since I purchased the computer (just over
a year ago), and so there can't be a compatibility issue can there?

I do as it says and simply get the same (or another) error message.
I've tried uninstalling the drivers for my floppy disk drive and then
reinstalling them, I've tried searching for driver updates, I've constantly
been searching the internet for help - though still havent found the root of
the problem!

If it helps, the computer I'm using is 'manufactured and supported by':

Time computers
AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+
1.66GHz, 480Mb of RAM

and is running Windows XP Home Edition - Version 2002 - Service Pack 2.
I also have norton internet security 2003 installed on the computer, and
have heard that this may be causing conflicts, is this true?

I look forward to reading any help/information from anyone on this matter -
many thanks in advance!

If its been doing it since you purchased the computer i'd suggest the drive
is either plugged in wrongly or is faulty. What did your computer vendor say
when you phoned their helpline?

The following may be the information you need:

Floppy Disk is Not Accessible, Not Formatted, or Not Recognized by Windows

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;140060&Product=winxp

If obsolete formatting of your floppy is your problem, you need to find a
computer with an older version of Windows, copy to files to a hard drive,
format the floppy and copy the files back to the floppy.

Thanks for the advice, but I still haven't sorted the problem, nevermind! If
it is infact a faulty floppy drive then I'd rather just leave it than have it
fixed - It's rare that I need to use floppy disks any lol. The article on the
microsoft website is related to a difrent problem I think, but thanks anyway
:-D!

Time had problems with a couple of models using Gigabyte motherboards
which dont read the floppy drive properly. It can be fixed with a BIOS
flash.
Call them and check if you have one of the affected machines. If so it
can be fixed with a flash disk
