This is pretty strange...

I just left my computer idle for a while and when I come back, the screen is
balck and the monitor is in standby (orange light). That's normal, I have my
monitor set to turn off after 15 minutes idle.

But when I move my mouse...nothing. I hit buttons on the keyboard...nothing.
CTRL-ALT-DELETE...nothing. I figureed that maybe the computer was shut down
because of my my UPS. But it was still on (or at least I could still hear the
fans and/or drives spinng), so I hit the reset button and it booted back up.

Does anyone know what went wrong, what caused this to happen? I'm in the
middle of finals and the last thing I need is another worry. LOL.

Thanks.

Could be Hibernation. Check if the computer is set to go into Hibernation in
Power Options. You have to press the power button to resume from Hibernation.
(not the reset button)

No, hibernation is turned off.

Do you have it set to go onto stand by? If that's the case you may want to
turn that off.

Yes, I do. Thanks. I think that solved it, as a few other people have told me
the same thing.

If you don't image your drives for backups, you might
also consider this a sign that it could be a good thing to
do just in case something else happens "in the middle
of finals".
