Microsoft is refusing to install critical updates to XP
computers not using Internet Explorer. I hope some judge
realizes this.

Please clarify your allegation in full!!
If correct, this is indeed a serious matter!

Pat,

His issue is that the Windows Update Site only functions correctly when you
use Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Since IE is part of Windows XP there is no reason for him not to use it.

This is covered in the End User Licese Agreement EULA in section 2.4

2.4 Internet Gaming/Update Features. If you choose to
utilize the Internet gaming or update features within the
Software, it is necessary to use certain computer system,
hardware, and software information to implement the features.
By using these features, you explicitly authorize Microsoft or
its designated agent to access and utilize the necessary
information for Internet gaming and/or updating purposes.
Microsoft may use this information solely to improve our
software or to provide customized services or technologies to
you. Microsoft may disclose this information to others, but
not in a form that personally identifies you.

So if you choose to use Windows update we may require you to use certain OS
components - in this case IE.
IE is part of Windows - it is available for your use to drive the Windows
Update service.

Brian;
Simply use Internet Explorer to install Critical Updates.
You may be able to download the updates and install them manually.
However you stated no specifics and nothing really to go on so it is
difficult to give any real suggestions.

Thanks Mike!

You need to get a clue. The Update Site requires ActiveX controls which is
only supported by IE. If Netscape had realized that it was a smart move to
implement ActiveX in its browser a few years ago then maybe today it
wouldn't be out of the race.

I just can't stand people who sh*t on Microsoft but have no clue whatsoever
about how things really work.

Greetings --

If it wasn't acceptable, why did you agree to the EULA?
