Hello Leythos
Well April 1st has passed - would have made a good wind-up.
Must be true - so long as MS warns when they intend to do this then I
suppose its acceptable - after all, its a bit of spyware they are using?
Sony had to remove their anti-counterfeit from CD/DVD, and I think I read
that Symantec/Norton were using something similar in some of their software.

That will encourage them to get a legal OS - what a great deal from MS - and
no charge - all for free. :-) :-) ;-)
Except they have got to buy the OS.

Beta software is no reward! Why should this be a "reward" when the
average joe out there SHOULD NOT be running beta software?

I love this:

“Genuine Windows users are rewarded with Internet Explorer 7.0 (IE7)
and Windows Defender,†said Ng.

_Rewarded_ with beta software!?

And this....

"The initiative is aimed at protecting its customers and partners from
counterfeit software, he said."

I saw no reference to "Beta" in that article and so will not assume
Microsoft intends to reward compliance with Beta products.
That most likely is not referring to the Beta but to the released versions.

Whoops mamamia - to whom are you replying? I didn't say reward.
I think you may have lost some of your sense of humour or you do not
recognise satire, ridicule or sarcasm.
I agree, Mr Average probably should not use beta stuff - but I live
dangerously and just allow myself antispy beta1.
Don't tell everyone though.:-) :-)

Then Microsoft is referring to vaporware. Although, in MS's
defense, it did not way when the reward will be granted.

Those items were probably mentioned because the release is imminent.
I am sure other programs and updates will follow.

Yep, it is true because WGA is now a critical patch (from 04/25)
required for everybody. check your windows update and see what you get.

Now I know what they mean by critical updates, what happens if you have a
legitimate copy of WindowsXP and for some reason you get marked with all
those ng pop ups and dialogs? It's kind of like product activation and WGA,
where it even does what it's not supposed to do, like contrary what it's
supposed to do. Deny legitimate users of these services.

We now have Product Activation, WGA, and now this, when is this company
going to appropriately rename itself to Dorksoft?

If it's getting worse with MS intrusion into our desktops on behalf of
WGA, we reinstall our good ol' W2K SP4... and when W2K is running out
of support, hopefully, there will be desktop-suitable Linux distros
("Winux for the desktoP";-) - perhaps from Redmond:-))

I would hope so because the mostly illiterate, average computer user has
no business using beta software!

I know they define it as high priority, but define "required" as in
"required for everybody".

Required for everybody who wants to get "free" beta software and the
wonderful, dare I say highly acclaimed, Windows Media Player.
