I was wondering how to save a custom theme as a theme file in xp. Do I need a
theme editor and if so is there a free one out there? thanks ahead

You did not state whether you are talking about the sound theme or the
appearance theme (audio/video)??? You can go to the appearance theme
by rightclicking the screen>Properties>Appearance tab and then saving the
setup. For Sound go to the Control Panel>Sounds and Audio, etc...
