The Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service hung on
starting. Why? Has anyone had the same problem on xp pro
sp1?The service is set to automatic but stuck on perpetual
starting.Unable to use the scanner HPscanjet 5200c. My
computer freezes for 5min(searchlight icon). When service
is set to disabled everything is fine apart of scanner.

Cleaning out your scanner driver and redoing an install can help too.

Hello Mary. Is there a way to make the actual WIA service
work? I searched high and low. No one seems to have any
idea as to why it hangs and how to rectify it. I've made a
fresh install of XP on a different HD and the service
works there fine even after I've applied sp1 and all the
hotfixes.
