I've had some problems with my computer in the last week -
no changes in hardware, just setup problems requiring a
repeat clean install of XP Pro. Well, after the first
two attempts, the product would not activate. I called
the MS number and got an activation code but asked why I
needed this as it was a valid copy of XP with a valid
keycode. The support person said "you are only allowed 2
activations before the system locks you out"!!! -
Remember - I didn't change ANY hardware!

So there you have it - right from the horses mouth -
screw up twice on the install and Big Brother takes over.

Perhaps what they didn't tell you is that the activation counter resets
after 120 days.

Yes, I knew that but what's all this BS about no problems
re-activating if you don't change your hardware?????

I think that information came from the other end of the horse! I've
activated my XP several times and, in less than a 120 day time span.

You can activate twice within 120 days. If you do it three times then MS
will happily activate it for you by phone.
