Hey, a little background info:
My school gave me a computer with a fresh install on it, but I think when
they installed XP they configured it for a domain, and my home network is a
workgroup. I've read a bunch of threads and they say to click "options" on
the logon screen and then make it so it doesnt use a domain, but the only
option that shows up when I click it is "Shut Down"

I think I have to disable whatever is making it try to use a domain,
whatever I need to do, I need to get it to correctly use a workgroup. Any
ideas?

Thanks

BTW I can't log in, so I can't change my network settings with that
WinKey+Break System Properties Computer Name thing. The only thing I can do
that I've figured out is try stuff in the recovery console... but I havn't
found any solution yet...

If the laptop had been properly setup, it would include a userid to use when not
connected to the domain, and you would have a selection in the pulldown list,
for computer name, and you could log on locally (without connecting to the
domain).

If there's no selection for the computer name in the pulldown list, you'll have
to try and login with the domain selected, and hope that your domain userid /
password was cached when you logged on from school (you did logon there, when
connected to the domain, to test, right?).

If they only setup a domain userid, and the domain userid wasn't cached, then
you're going to have to carry it back to school and ask for instructions.
Unless of course the school has a tech support desk that's open after hours.

You need to take it to the school, hook it to their network, and log in at
least once using the domain accoun they gave you. This will create cached
credentials so you will be able to log in when the machine is off their
network.

Ask their tech support for assistance in logging in for the first time.

Once you are logged in, set the machine up as you want.

If you intend to run it on the school domain, do NOT remove it from the
domain back to a workgroup.
That will screw you up whenyou try to re-log in with the domain account.
It's possible to access your home LAN without doing that.

last day of school was today

today was the last day of school. There's no way I can just turn off user
authentication in the recovery console? Even if it messes up the networking
abilities, I dont really care, I was just gunna use it for games, I've got
other pcs. There's no tech support, I go to high school.
