the send to desk top function has disapeared from the menus

Try a system restore to before the problem occurred. Start | All
Programs | Accessories | System Tools | System Restore. Otherwise repost
with more detailed information after reading the below link on making a
good newsgroup post.

See if the following commands help, courtesy of David Candy:

Click Start, Run and type:

regsvr32 sendmail.dll
regsvr32 /i shell32.dll
