Hi there,
If anyone could help me get XP Pro logging in/out faster I would really
appreciate it. I fixed the mrRate 7000 error already and would like to fix
this one as it is the only error in my event viewer. After this I hope XP
will log us in/out faster.
Thanks,
ed

Do you have the parallel port disbaled in the BIOS?
Presuming that you do, or you don't otherwise need the
parallel port,
enter device manager, click view/show hidden
non-plug and play devices.
Right click parallel port driver/properties
Select driver tab and set startup type to disabled.

Have this same error here.

It does NOT affect login/logout times.

Sorry for the bad news...

Yes, I had it to.
That's how I found out how to alleviate the situation.
As you say, doesn't really affect logon times.

hey da_test,
is that ParVDM under Non Plug&Play Drivers?

:
No. It should actually say "parallel port driver"

If it's not there, here's a couple of things to check:
Open a CMD box and type
Net start parport (press enter)

What does it say? Does the entry appear in non plug
and play devices now?

If still no good, check this registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_PARPORT

Does it exist?

The Parallel port driver service failed to start due to the following error:

The fix is simple:
1. Open Regedit and go to
HKLM\System|CurrentControlSet\Services\Parport
2. Edit the Start key and change the value to 4. Changing the value to 4 will "disable" the service.
3. Reboot the computer
