I did what the above support page told me to do and I am still getting the
same error.

"The Local Policy of This System Does Not Permit You to Logon Interactively"

I am using XP Pro on a computer directly connected to the internet via cable
modem. No router, firewall,. nothing.. .

Only one account is even set up on the computer. It is an administraive
account and does have a password associated with it.

FYI, I do have 2 network cards in my computer, one directly connected to the
cable modem and the other connected to a hub for my internal network.

I am trying to connect to this computer from work using RDC from a Win2k Pro
machine.
 
Is the machine a domain member?

If so, look at the settings for Remote Access in AD users and computers.
 
Try this (adapted from a server KB article):

Start=>Run=>gpedit.msc\

Click Local ComputerPolicy, double-click the Computer Configuration
branch to expand it, and then double-click the Windows Setting branch
to expand it.
Double-click the Security Settings branch to expand it, and then
double-click the Local Policies branch to expand it.
Double-click the User Rights Assignment branch to expand it,
double-click the "Allow Logon through Terminal Services" branch to
expand it, and then click Add.
Click the users or groups you want to add, click OK, and then click
OK.
Quit the Group Policy Editor snap-in by clicking Console, clicking
Exit, and then clicking No.
In order for the change to apply immediately, open a command prompt
and type the following command:
secedit /refreshpolicy machine_policy

Sorry, no, it is a simple peer to peer home network, only for sharing the
internet connection and printers.

One question... How can I transer files between the two locations?

In local resources tab at client end, enable disk drives.

Connect, open My Computer on host, and find client machine disk drives
listed after all others.

You will get a security warning before connecting.

SP1 may be required on the host for this to work.
 
I have the same problem with an XP Home box trying to connect to a Win 2003 server box. I get this message via a LAN and cannot do anything via internet. XP Home does not allow me to edit the User Groups so I cannot change permissions. Help says i need XP Pro to do this ... but everything in XP Home help says the Terminal Services is available.

What to do??
 
Check the rest of the thread for things to try. I am absolutely certain
that you don't need XP Pro to do this.

Setting up a Win2K server & TS & ran across this same error trying to
use TS to remote into an XP workstation. I follow the directions
verbatim & don't find the "Allow Logon through Terminal Services"
branch at all. Any idea whats up with that?
 
It's the fifth option under the User Rights Assignment tree...
