the letters in the body of Word are blinking and fuzzy

If I try to type a letter, actually if I try to type anything in a NEW window
in Microsoft Word 2003 on a computer using Windows XP Pro (with all updates
current for windows and office) the letters blink and seem to be fuzzy. It
seems like it is asking me to do something with it but I don't know what.
 
It sounds like you may have set your default font to include formatting
options such as Animation.

In a new blank doc go to Format>Font & check *all* the settings on each page
of the dialog. If any are "out of whack" - such as Blinking Background on
the Animation page - change them to something more suitable, then click the
Default button & acknowledge Yes to the ensuing prompt.

If that isn't the issue post back & provide as much detail as you can.
