the disk structure is corrupted and unreadable

Hello,

After rebooting after a system hang, the computer couldn't
load the registry file. I bought a new harddrive and
installed it and reinstalled windows onto the new drive.
I put the old harddrive on to a free ide cable and
rebooted.

The original C drive material is all readable and I
imagine recoverable, however the drive was partitioned
into two drives. The second partition shows up as drive
e, as would be expected, but when I right click to explore
the drive i get the message "The disk structure is
corrupted and unreadable." I opened up the properties on
the drive, and it appears to be able to read the size of
teh drive, but says it contains 0 bytes and is full even
though it shows it as 50 something gigs in size.

I tried to run check disk from the tools to see if it was
something that could be repaired, but that facility starta
and stops without seeming to perform any action.

Any help with diagnosing the cause of the problem would be
very much appreciated, as I need to recover the material
for my business.

Please send any information that would help to
(e-mail address removed).

Thank you in advance,
AE

The hd manu.site may have a utility for checking / repairing the hd.
I used one to recover a hd sufficiently to backup data.
