Hi

When I booted up my pc today, running Windows XP Home Edition OEM, I
suddenly noticed that all my desctop icons had got a background(I know how to
change the color, but not how to make them transparent again) and that I had
got a new shortcut arrow. Anyone know how to set it back to the deafults?

Control Panel -> System _> Advanced tab -> Performance section -> Settings
button -> Find the part for "Use drop shadows for icons on the desktop" and
make sure it is checked.

The information is provided "as is", it is suggested you research for
yourself before you take any advice - you are the one ultimately

getting into before you jump in with both feet.

I've tried that, but It doesn't work!

Shorcut arrow is the default. Have you been messing with TweakUI?

Desktop icons and icon labels may not display background transparency or the
drop shadow effect in Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP

I fixed the Shortcut arrow, thanks for that, But I've still got troubles withthe treansparency. The icons won't become transparent when I do it! Is it something in my registry I can edit or soemthing?

Tried cycling it?
(If checked, uncheck and click OK, reboot - then reverse it and repeat until
you get it checked again.)

I finally figured this one out! Right click on the Desktop (anywhere) and
click on "arrange icons by", then uncheck the line that says "lock web items
on desktop", which should currently be checked. This will immediately fix the
problem. Not sure why these Microsoft know-it-all's don't know the answer to
this one! Hope this helps you.
