Thanks. Wake Up! Pro (WUP) looks interesting. Freeware, open source. :)

Welcome to the offical website of Wake Up! Pro, an alarm clock program designed for insomniacs
(such as yours truly). WUP (what I call it for short) was written in Visual Basic 6 and is in a
constant state of improvement. The reason I created it is because it takes a lot to get me out of
bed sometimes, my three alarm clock can all be shut off... One day (on which I overslept) I came
up with an idea: to use my PC as an alarm clock that would not let me go back to sleep. WUP can be
a harmless clock on your desktop or a relentless noise machine, according to the options you select.

re other programs - Freeware apps that have scheduling/alarms are listed on this page:

I added the extra wake-up tones and they are
all good. You can set the clock interface on the
computer screen where it's all that is showing.
The flourescent green looks decent and it can
be left on all the time as a screensaver. There
are others that are good, but personally so
far this is the best I have seen. It also has a lot
of easy-to-use functions with good instructions.
