That "Shadow" think is killing me...

Vista Home Premium

While working on a manuscript in MSWord, occasionally the screen
will go transluscent and the "wait" spinner will appear. I
suspect it's Vista making or updating a "Shadow" backup, but
frankly it's intrusive.

What can I do about it?

Thanks!

Which version of Word?

I know 2007 was bugging me a few months back with connecting to the network
printer which would take a second or so, but it would typically only do this
once. Asking in the Office group will probably get you more helpful advice.

Office 2003. We won't get 2007 for another few weeks. One of our
people is so young he still knows everything, and he says it's a
Vista "Shadow" issue.

Iirc, someone may correct me if I am wrong..Shadow Copy and System Restore are intertwined....the simplest method is to disable System Restore and install a disk image program(e.g. Acronis True Image 10 or Ghost 12) and create regular images to protect your system.

Shadow copies is not avaliable on Home Premium - only on Business,
Enterprise, and Ultimate. So probably not that :-)

Thanks.
My HELP menu suggests that there *is* a Shadow function
operating on this system, but gives no way to manage it.

However, I just got that same problem in another situation so
don't think Shadow causes it. Evidently something is working in
the background to soak up resources. The CPU and RAM meters in
the side panel don't help diagnosis, but I'll keep working on it.

Ummmm. when I made my Recovery Disks, the screen told me that the program
was making a Shadow Copy to download to Recovery Disk. This is on Vista HP.

I'm sure I answered this post before. Shadow copies are created by the
System Restore utility - having said that - Word includes a Recovery
function which, depending on settings, makes copies of documents as they are
being created.

To check settings :Word>Microsoft Office Button (top left corner>Word
Options (bottom right)>Save - recovery options listed.
